Bringing your new baby home is a special and fleeting time, and simplifying newborn photography has been a goal of mine for years. I remember all too well how wonderful, yet overwhelming, those early days feel. As I navigated the early days of parenting, I was already aware of how quickly (and somehow slowly) time passes. The early days of your growing family are certainly a time to remember. Those newborn details don’t last long! My goal? Read on…
Let’s take the photos in your home!
While my kids are seven and eight now, I remember how challenging it was to leave the house with a newborn. It was even more challenging with a newborn and a toddler! I felt like I packed our whole house into the car- diapers, extra clothes, an oversized car seat, clothes for me, nursing supplies, pillows, blankets, and more. I needed it all! When I started photographing newborns, I knew I wanted to eliminate this challenge and stress for new moms. I’ll come to you! Not only does this keep you from having to pack up the nursery, but it allows me to capture the details of your life as well as your new baby. Trust me- when that baby is grown, you will love seeing the details of the nursery as much as those tiny toes!
Your house is fine for newborn photography- I promise.
I often hear concerns about newborn photography in client’s homes. What if the light isn’t good enough? Our house is small. We’re in the middle of a few projects. We have older kids too- our house is a mess! Your house is fine, I’m sure of it. I’m comfortable working in a variety of lighting situations, and can easily move things or shift my angle to produce the most ideal outcome. When I arrive, I’ll ask for a brief tour to determine the best lighting and we will go from there. Most often, we will end up in the nursery, master bedroom, and living room. If you insist on tidying up a bit, these are the best rooms to target. Otherwise, let me do the work! Also, keep in mind, that the details of your space are important and deserve to be remembered. Perfectly clean and beautiful spaces aren’t the reality of life with a newborn. You’ll be happy to have these memories, I’m sure of it.
You’ll look good- don’t worry!
Even though my newborn days are behind me, I haven’t forgotten how I felt during that time. Showers didn’t happen as often as I would have liked, I was in between clothing sizes, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about being behind the camera. My sessions are designed with a focus on the baby, and the inclusion of you will be done in the most flattering and comfortable of ways. Both you and your child will be so happy to have photos that include you during this special time!
Do you have older children too?
My newborn photography session style is perfect for including older children. Sibling photos are always my favorites! When it’s time to photograph baby alone, the older kids are happy to head off to play.
Are you expecting a new baby?
I’d love to chat more about the details of an in-home newborn session. It’s such a special time to photograph. I look forward to connecting with you!
